WORSHIP

We gather weekly to hear God’s voice calling us to new life in Jesus Christ. We confess our sins, receive God’s forgiveness, sing hymns of praise, and pray. We worship so that we will be strengthened and renewed to live out our callings in the world.

The designation of different styles of worship as either traditional or contemporary is not entirely accurate. Traditional worship is contemporary meaning it is pertinent for today and contemporary worship does include traditions of the church through the ages. For lack of a better differentiation, we distinguish between the two styles as Traditional and Contemporary.

Traditional Worship:

The first worship service (8:00 summer, 8:30 Sept-May) features the organ as the primary instrument to lead singing. We generally use the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal for our order of service and hymns. If you appreciate classical music and prefer traditional hymns and the organ, this may be the service for you.

Contemporary Worship:

The second worship (9:30 in summer, 10:30 Sept-May) utilizes the piano, guitars, and drums to lead worship. We have several different contemporary worship teams, each of which has its own unique personality and style. On any given Sunday, the contemporary team leading worship will lead the second service. If you like rock-n-roll music, a more up-tempo worship pace, and contemporary Christian music played on the radio, this may be the worship service for you.

Music at St. Stephen:

Music is celebrated at St. Stephen Lutheran. Almost every Sunday, a special musical offering  is included during the worship service. Usually, the person sharing their gift of music will do so at all worship services that Sunday.

We have an adult choir which practices on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. The choir sings in worship services approximately once a month. Our youth choir meets at 6:00 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays.

A  liturgical dance group is lead by Heather Fossum. The group dances in worship periodically.

Advent and Lent

During the seasons of Advent and Lent, we offer worship services on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
